To help us continue on this journey, the Global Consumer Bank is building a small yet seasoned Business Development (BD) team.

The Role

The new GCB Head of Business Development is charged to support the growth and profitability of Citi’s Global Consumer Bank by identifying new vectors of growth that ultimately impact the products, services and capabilities we are able to offer our clients. The newly formed team will provide leadership and expertise on informing, solving and driving the execution of the most critical strategic partnerships and negotiations for GCB. As a result, there is an exciting opportunity as Director of Strategy, Competitive Intelligence and Planning, to manage the strategic priorities and a portfolio book of work to progress the GCB Business Development agenda, in addition to the overall operation and control of the team. The candidate must establish strong working relationships with internal colleagues across GCB and ICG, and will be expected to manage multiple priorities on a day-to-day basis.

Core responsibilities will be leading a small team in the management of:

·Develop the overall Consumer business strategy through competitive intelligence and market insight for GCB CEO – conduct financial, market and/or organizational research as needed to define goals and opportunities

·Assess trends, innovations and business opportunities to develop an overall strategy that drives decisions for key GCB markets

·Develop the GCB external Investor Day storyline

·Analyzing the overall GCB structure and recommending related operating efficiencies

·Support potential transactions/business cases in conjunction with the core BD team in producing proposals for client meetings, as well as assessing from a strategic, operational and financial perspective. Lead market rationalizations.

·Formulate and shepherd cross-franchise initiatives, programs from conception to completion – support strong working relationships with internal colleagues across GCB and ICG to ensure we proactively maximize Citi’s holistic position

·Establish best practices and build a (GCB BD) playbook on methodologies/tools for approaching transactions across GCB with the BD team

·Manage GCB Business Development Council

·Provide business management capabilities, including working with finance and HR to strategize and create processes,as well as manage associated in business controls for the team

·Participate/facilitate/influence business’ strategic planning and business development activities

·Assist and/or lead initiatives and special projects critical to the direction of business on behalf of the Head of Business Development

·Lead and manage a small, high performing team to work across business lines to support the overall business management and communication needs for the Head of BD. Specifically:

oManage requests from GCB Executive leadership team, as well as other senior partners including: updates on strategic priorities (i.e. Must Win Battles) and work collaboratively with their offices on meeting agendas and requests

oManage the overall communication needs for the Head of Business Development; organize commitments such as presentations/messaging to management committee, strategy off-sites, Town Halls and other internal & external speaking engagements, developing related agendas and track of follow ups

oManage the operations of the team, including working with Finance and HR to strategize and create processes, manage the overall business controls of the team and establish management routines/operating rhythms (e.g., agenda setting and coordination of regularly occurring meetings)


Business Experience and

Technical Skills:

  • 10+ years of management experience in financial services or consulting with background in Fin Tech, Payment industry and/or digital commerce

  • Proven track record of execution and results

  • Strategic and project management capabilities coupled with strong analytic and financial acumen

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize information, prioritize business goals and drive results with a high sense of urgency

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills to ensure alignment and buy-in across the organization

  • Conducts rigorous analysis and is able to synthesize complex and multiple source data into fact based and nuanced solutions

  • Ability to build credible and trusting relationships across Citi

  • Influential and high track record of followership with demonstrated experience gaining consensus and alignment in a highly matrixed environment- strong network of relationships among peers, internal partners, external constituencies and decision makers

  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and written/verbal communications skills.

  • Outstanding people leadership skills, able to envision an enhanced future state and motivate and inspire others to create it

  • Pragmatic problem solver, forward thinker with independence of thought.

  • Promotes a culture of collaboration and teamwork across organizational boundaries; willing to break down functional silos to optimize business results and to facilitate the overall growth of the franchise.

  • Self-motivated, highly adaptive and able to work well in high stress
