HistoWiz Laboratory Assistant in Long Island City, New York

We are seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Assistant to join our team in Long Island City, NY. As a Laboratory Assistant at HistoWiz, you will play an integral role in our lab operations team and be responsible for lab organization, shipping and receiving client projects, maintaining inventory and supplies, slide and cassette printing, slide cleaning, and scanning while following strict quality control and quality assurance standard operating procedures. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex problems, has excellent communication skills, team building experience, and thrives in a fast-paced setting that is constantly evolving. They should be a self-starter with demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about business and technical challenges. Main Duties

  • Organizing and maintaining the laboratory to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient working environment

  • Shipping and receiving client projects and samples, including preparing and labeling materials for transport

  • Maintaining inventory and supplies, including ordering and restocking as needed

  • Performing slide and cassette printing, slide cleaning, and scanning according to established protocols

  • Following strict quality control and quality assurance standard operating procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in life science or equivalent field preferred.

  • One year of laboratory experience in a molecular biology lab or working with animal model research

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with colleagues and clients

  • Strong team building experience, with the ability to work collaboratively with others towards shared goals

  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about business and technical challenges

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work under pressure while maintaining high integrity and discipline

  • Experience with histology or immunohistochemistry is strongly preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is required

  • Schedule flexibility for weekend or late shifts (outside of 9 AM-5 PM business hours)
