Summary of Role:

GlobalFoundries is seeking a skilled and motivated technician intern to develop, implement, and support the electronic repair center (ERC) for Fab 8, in Malta, New York. This position is being developed to assist in productivity improvements for semiconductor equipment, which is accomplished by enabling higher equipment availability and a reduction in spending. This position is in the 300mm factory in Malta, New York.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Job shadow and train in electronics repair:

  • Basic repairs involving component replacement of predetermined failure

  • Electronic component parts research

  • Project to organize and develop system for spare used electronics:

  • Isolate and remove components that can be removed and placed in inventory

  • Remove e-waste that is nonvalue added to the shop

  • Work with team to develop a process to mitigate future buildup of excess parts

  • Enhance current 6S Vidmar component inventory

  • Packaging of completed repairs in a professional manner ensuring safe handling

  • Implement standard work by ensuring job breakdown sheets and data are satisfactory before returning items to stock and manufacturing teams

Other Responsibilities:

  • Job shadow and train in 3D design/printing

  • Develop 6S system for 3D part manufacturing to improve efficiency and performance

  • Ad hoc projects

  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs

Required Qualifications:

  • Education/Experience - Enrolled in a 2 Year Associates Degree in Science, Math, Engineering, Semiconductor Manufacturing, Mechanical or Electrical Technology, Automotive, Industrial, HVAC, Advanced Manufacturing, Aviation, or a related discipline.

  • Strong academic standing

  • Able to sit or stand for an extended period of time

  • Individuals must be well versed in all Microsoft Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint …)

  • Language Fluency:  English (Written & Verbal)

  • Ability to work 8 hour shifts - Monday – Friday

  • Able to work in cleanroom environment wearing required cleanroom clothing per semiconductor protocol/requirements

  • Able to lift equipment and tools when performing maintenance activities (any object greater than 50lbs require two-person lift)

  • Perform semi-skilled and unskilled labor duties related to maintenance and repair of semiconductor equipment using hand tools
