*Position Summary: *The Children’s Aid PS 72 Lexington Academy offer services that address the diverse and changing needs of children and families of the East Harlem Community. PS 72 Lexington Academy offers the highest quality of services with dedicated, qualified, and diverse staff. PS 72 Lexington Academy takes responsibility for helping children successfully graduate college while they progress through each developmental stage while incorporating opportunities for personal growth in all areas that are essential to become a happy, healthy & productive adult.

The Dance Instructor is responsible for the development and implementation of dance skills into the after school and summer camp programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, plan & implement quality & innovative youth programming that employs youth development principals & practices-as well as a holistic approach to expose youth to new experiences.

  • Design and implement activities that are age appropriate for youth 5 years old through 11 years old.

  • Development of dance themes and activities that promote individual creativity and self-expression.

  • Development of course curriculum

  • Inspire projects promoting youth ideas, expressions and creativity.

  • Each general dance skills to students in creative ways

  • Be a positive role model for children and serve as a positive role model for youth.

  • Complete and submit weekly schedules, reports and all other required documentation.

  • Work collaboratively with other agency youth programs and partners.

  • Attend program staff meetings

  • All other duties as required and necessary.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Arts in Dance, Health Science, or related field preferred.

  • Knowledge of youth development principles and youth programs.

  • Must be comfortable creating choreography

  • Must have experience in various dance genres

  • Flexible & able to adapt.

  • Experience in curricula development.

  • Ability to interface with diverse youth and staff populations.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary team.

  • Excellent Communication Skills (written & verbal).

  • Good Command of English Language, Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
