When you join PPGNY as The Director of Health Information Management you will help plan, organizes, and manages all operations of Health Information Management for PPGNY, working in collaboration with all Departments to ensure the integrity, completeness, and accuracy of medical records.

The H.I.M. Director supervises and coordinates the activities of personnel engaged in analyzing, compiling, coding, indexing, and filing permanent medical records of patients. Review records for completeness, accuracy, and conformance to standards. Prepares statistical reports and compilations of PPGNY’s health information activities. This position works in close partnership and collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate and complete records.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Confidentiality, Privacy & Security: Works in partnership with the VP of Compliance to ensure data privacy and security, confidentiality, e-discovery, meaningful use, release of information, HIPAA and HITECH privacy and security regulations.

  • Health Informatics: Responsible for Health Information Exchange, healthcare analytics, clinical decision support, business intelligence, clinical terminologies

  • Healthcare Leadership: Responsible for performance improvement, staff training and development, strategic and organizational management, project, and contract management

  • Consumer Engagement: Manages patient health records, patient portals, patient rights, personal health monitoring, and coordination of care.

  • Coding, Classification & Reimbursement: Works in partnership with Finance, Revenue Cycle and Clinical Services to ensure proper coding, classification systems, revenue management and compliance, and reimbursement. Manages and maintains provider credentialing.

  • Performance Improvement: Develops and manages performance improvement projects, data/statistics, reports of open encounters, etc.

  • Ensure compliance with PPFA, Federal, and State laws and regulations related to Medical Records and reporting requirements. Leads quality and regulatory efforts related to HIM.

  • Identify, develop, and review policies and procedures, standardized record templates, and workflows related to health information management.

  • Trains new staff in the use of EPIC and ensures standardization of all clinical records in the system. Manages all aspects of EPIC training, including Credentialed Trainers. Develops quality programs with tools such as audits, workflows, etc. to provide individual and systems-level training to affiliate staff.

  • Plans, implements, and monitors quality and production of department functions. Develop and implement a Clinical Documentation Improvement Program

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree, preferably in Health Information Management

  • Registered Health Information Administrator required; must be current and in good standing through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

  • ICD-10 certification

Minimum Experience:

  • 10 years’ experience in management overseeing health information, including expert knowledge of health information management practices and procedures, regulatory requirements, including applicable state and federal law. Experience in NYS Article 28 setting or Joint Commission preferred.

  • 5 years of progressive supervisory experience

  • Expert Knowledge of coding, reimbursement methodology, and third-party billing requirements with associated license/certification

  • Significant experience with EPIC, preferred as a credentialed trainer. If you are not already a CT, you will be required to do so upon hire.

  • Responsibility for or experience with a Clinical Documentation Improvement Program

Proof of immunization or immunity to certain communicable diseases (including influenza during the flu season and Covid-19) and testing for tuberculosis. These certifications are required by the NYC DOHMH Health Code, NYSDOH and OSHA.
