*Position Summary: *The Government Relations and Community Engagement Manager reports to the Assistant Director of Public Policy and will be responsible for supporting Children’s Aid’s government relations and community engagement work; supporting Children’s Aid’s grassroots advocacy efforts; coordinating community engagement activities on behalf of Children’s Aid; training Children’s Aid staff, youth and parents on effective advocacy; and managing select projects as they arise.

Salary:$60,000 - $65,000 (Annually)

*Responsibilities: *

Government Relations and Community Engagement

  • Work with the Director and Assistant Director of Public Policy to lead development and execution of Children’s Aid’s government relations and community engagement strategies.

  • Assist the Director and Assistant Director of Public Policy in developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with government leaders, non-profits, community organizations and other prospective partners to effectively carry out the government relations strategy.

  • Support in the management of multiple site-based Advisory groups.

  • Work with the Assistant Director to connect Children’s Aid sites and programs to elected officials and involve them in Children’s Aid advocacy efforts and events.

  • Support the management of relationships with elected officials.

  • Support external community relations issue areas including Police relations, Immigration, and other timely issues.

  • Attend community meetings on a regular basis.

  • Testify at hearings, attend select events and other events hosted by elected officials

  • Develop strong relationships with site-based staff to understand local issues arising in everyday work.

  • Support the management of the Community Building Summer Internship Program.


  • Support youth and parent/family advocacy at all CA sites and programs, including training and working with CA Division Directors, Program Directors, Advocacy Liaisons and CA Ambassadors.

  • Lead select coalition activities (i.e. petition collection, letter writing, phone banks, social media campaigns etc.) and turn out staff, parents, and youth to participate.

  • Coordinate logistics for advocacy events (including advocacy days, legislative visits, and legislative breakfasts).

*Qualifications: *

  • High-School Diploma and 5 years of relevant experience in policy and advocacy role(s) required; Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience preferred.

  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail, creative and the initiative to solve or anticipate problems.

  • Experience working with youth and families on advocacy-related issues.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.

  • Ability to utilize various social media platforms.

  • Ability to travel is required.

  • A passion for and commitment to mission-based work and social change, especially in the area of children, youth, and families.
