YAI has an opening for a full-time Senior Social Worker (LCSW) to work at Manhattan Star Academy’s Upper School located at 150 Amsterdam Ave. This position provides the opportunity to oversee the Upper School Social Work Department and serve as a liaison between the Manhattan Star Academy Upper School families and staff.

Key responsibilities:

  • Weekly supervision, mentoring and documentation of progress toward clinical licensure for Upper School Social Workers.

  • Co-ordinate Health and Sexuality Program for Upper School.

  • Monthly supervision with the Director of the program.

  • Assign caseloads for counseling each fall and summer.

  • Provide clinical counseling services to students including treatment planning, session notes documenting progress toward goals and quarterly progress notes.

  • Serve as a liaison between families and the school team.

  • Participate in weekly management meetings.

  • Co-lead Social Work department (combined Upper and Lower School) meetings weekly with Coordinator of Family Services.

  • Co-lead parent support groups each month.

  • Plan and organize monthly parent workshops with the Coordinator of Family Services and the Social Work Team.

  • Collaborate with teachers, TAs, therapy staff, school nurse and admin to ensure a team approach.

  • Prepare and present annual staff evaluations for Upper School Social Workers.

  • Facilitate communication with home therapy teams and outside doctors and specialists with the MSA school team.

  • Provide relevant resources to families throughout the school year and provide guidance in accessing community resources and O.P.W.D.D services.

  • Attend scheduled Open House Meetings and conduct New Student Intakes with prospective families.

  • Provide Professional Development for all staff, as requested by management team.

  • Co-Facilitate Social Skills sessions for classroom cohorts in partnership with Speech Department and Lead Teachers.

  • Supervise Art & Music Therapist

    Education and Experience:

  • Masters in Social Work

  • LCSW license

  • School Social Work certification preferred

  • Must have a 3 + years working as a clinician

  • Experience providing clinical supervision

  • Bilingual (Spanish) highly desired

    Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills

  • Knowledge of Transition requirements for students with special needs, highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of Healthy Relationships, Sexuality and Puberty is highly desirable for students with I/DD .

  • Willing to take initiative.

  • Highly flexible personality type.

  • Skilled in conflict resolution.

  • Willing to work as a part of a team.

  • Proficient in Workday, Salesforce and managing a team.

  • S.I.F.I certified and experienced in supervising Social Work Interns.

  • Experience in working with/navigating services for Individuals with I/DD is highly desirable.
