About the job

We are looking for an engineer whose principal role is to develop the physical inventory targets for the Cast House. This includes the Aluminum inventory targets; including work in progress (WIP), scrap, and finished goods for all product streams. Product streams include billet, sow and rod. This also includes the organization and inventory control of dross, alloys and key consumable components within the Cast House. This position is the single point of accountable (SPA) for cast house inventory. The individual in this role will develop the strategy and goals for inventory management and targets. Once goals are developed, this person will work with peers to get the Cast House to the target state. The primary focus is to optimize the total inventory picture using LEAN and Six Sigma approaches. While driving the Cast House to target state, any issues that bubble up will be worked into the continuous improvement cycle of Plan, Do, Check and Act to identify further work to lock in the target state and advocate for further improvements.

The incumbent will apply industrial engineer methodology to minimize total inventory position while maintaining high levels of delivery performance for our customers. This position will be focused on finding ways to eliminate waste and challenging the norms of the business.Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop process flow maps
Develop inventory targets based on the product mix and customer orders
Develop inventory strategies to prevent buildup of dormant inventory (WIP, FG and scrap)
This individual will be the SPA for strategy and ensuring that we are focusing on LEAN and Six Sigma tools
Influence peers and subsequently supervisors and shop floor employees to hit the inventory targets.
Develop visual tools to be used in daily management to ensure we are progressing to target state
Coach others on the daily management tools; which include shift change between supervisors, tool box meetings where daily job assignments are communicated, and department daily management meeting (DMS)
Challenge the cast house production and shipping coordinator to ensure the production plan and the shipping plan align with the inventory strategy
Identify issues with ACES (internal computer management system for the cast house) which includes ensuring the inventory is built in the system, every time material is consumed it is relieved from inventory
For each issue with ACES, perform PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) which includes identifying the problem, define solutions, verify the solutions are working, and act or adjust as needed to get the desired result
This individual is responsible to develop the strategy and system to handle alloys and key consumable components
This individual will be encouraged to be a mentor and teacher of continuous improvement methodology (also known in Alcoa as Alcoa Business System or ABS)

Bachelor's degree preferred- Engineering & Management, Any Engineer field, BA or MBA
3 years' work experience preferred within an operations function in an industrial process environment

High energy, detail minded, ability to work in systematic, structured, and efficient manner
Highly developed digital literacy including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OracleThis position requires you to:
Be a good communicator
Have LEAN or Six Sigma experience
Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE, i.e. hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, safety boots, etc.) anytime work requires you to enter areas of the plant where PPE is required.
Travel less than 10% of the time
