About the job
This position is accountable for managing the activities of bargaining unit employees and overseeing daily operations in the Electrode Department. Additionally, the incumbent will be uniquely qualified to provide emergency response to fires, injuries, environmental spills, or other critical incidents on plant property on an as-needed basis.
Manage assigned resources in compliance with policies to assure that environment, health and safety are the first priority of the business. Lead and conduct key safety initiatives such as employee safety meetings and "toolbox" discussions, risk assessments, environmental, health and safety audits, and compliance monitoring.
Accountable to ensure production schedules, staffing scheduling, and production equipment maintenance meet departmental objectives.
Supervise the day-to-day activities associated with the flow of carbon anodes to the Potroom department.
Monitor departmental labor/management activities and issues to ensure that business needs are met.
Provide coaching, counseling, and support to direct reports to ensure their personal development and positive contribution towards achieving departmental goals.
Accountable for ensuring department personnel follow safe standard operating procedures such that processes remain stable and product quality consistently meets or exceeds customer requirements. Maintain open line of communication with his/her counterpart in the customer's organization.
Respond to emergencies including fires, environmental spills, and serious injuries.
Escort outside "911" medical/ambulance calls.
Provide emergency assistance under various conditions including, natural disaster, bomb threat, civil disobedience, etc.
BACKGROUND SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Demonstrated ability in providing leadership and achieving results is required.
Specialized training in emergency response is also required. The incumbent must be trained in First Aid, CPR, and AED operation. Also, he/she have experience with firefighting, rope rescue, and hazardous material spills techniques and be able to provide training in these areas to the Emergency Response Team.
Demonstrated PC skills are required, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS-Outlook.
A high school diploma is required.
A broad understanding of the Electrode facility, processes, and materials is preferred.
