This position is directly responsible for the NBEG Global Regulatory Affairs team focusing on pre-and post -acquisitions. Position is direct liaison with NBD (New Business Development) and NBEG (New Business Empowerment Group) business teams during pre- and post-acquisition, including brand contact and management post-acquisition during on-boarding and integration. Directs a 9 member staff, plus regular contract support, and is responsible for global regulatory compliance for both legacy and new product development of the newly acquired brands.
Responsible for carrying out and managing in-depth pre- acquisition examinations of targets, preparing and submitting reports of findings, evaluating and identifying potential risks to upper management.
Post -acquisition, directs NBEG Global Regulatory Affairs to support corporate initiatives in developing the next generation of prestige beauty brands across all product categories. Assess NBEG high-potential prestige beauty branded products for current and anticipated regulatory issues and adherence to ELC Corporate regulatory and technical guidelines; in collaboration with cross functional teams, making assessments related to corrective aspects regarding regulatory for products and their raw materials.
High degree of understanding the business, regulatory implications in gaining and maintaining uninterrupted domestic and foreign market access for our newly acquired brands is critical. Thorough understanding of the operations within the Brands, company and R&D are requisite in communicating critical regulatory issues. Knowledge of our business and operations, related issues, and ELC Corporate policies and positions are essential when working with acquired brand legacy and newly hired staff.
Must be able to effectively explain compliance/registration requirements/challenges to non-regulatory people within the business and legacy/founder brands from junior to executive levels.
Represents ELC at external meetings, specifically the cosmetic trade association to promote ELC positions and business.
50% Leads, manages and directs newly acquired brands through systems onboarding and integration, supporting data gathering, assessment and review of legacy and newly developed products after purchase. Close, daily contact with new brands helping them onboard, and eventually, integrate into the ELC systems. Informs, educates, trains, explains and manages newly acquired brands regarding global regulatory requirements and coompliance, ELC systems including global product registration.
25% Contributing expert advisor to brands on regulatory implementation initiatives to meet business and Regulatory mandates. Foreign governments make changes to cosmetic regulations - prohibiting ingredients, changes in market/registration approval timelines and data requirements. Position must be knowledgeable about these regulatory changes, make impact assessments on business plans and provide Brand management with the appropriate direction to ensure compliance and market approvals.
15% Oversees & directs daily functions of NBEG RA team including: ILN generation, Regulatory Reviews, global registration/notifications as well as pre-acquisition review, all on-boarding and integration activities.
10% Actively participates in PCPC (cosmetic trade association) on various committees bringing ELC points of view and influences direction on regulatory, legislative issues.
-University Degree in Science
-8 years Regulatory experience in the cosmetics/personal care industry
-25% in NYC/Travel
-English - both written and verbal proficiency, other language(s) desirable
Seasoned regulatory professional with excellent regulatory knowledge of US FDA, Canada, EU and key foreign market personal care/ cosmetic product regulations.
High degree of strategic thinking, problem solving skills; attention to detail; ability to communicate regulatory information to others with less knowledge.
Experience working within Product Safety, Regulatory Affairs, and Research & Development departments in a multinational cosmetic company.
Hands on management experience working with cross-functional teams to execute responsibilities.
Self-directed professional having excellent communication, interpersonal and time-management skills.
