About the Graduate Development Program

National Grid's ) is an in-depth training and development program for high achieving recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 8-week Orientation which gives you exposure to all part of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. National Grid is aiming for an in-person GDP experience for Summer 2021. However, we will continue to monitor the impacts of COVID-19 and will shift to a virtual program if necessary, in order to honor our commitment to our young talent pipeline.

Following Orientation, Graduates begin working in their hired position. Additionally, all Graduates will develop leadership skills through frequent development sessions and a Capstone Project at the completion of your first year with National Grid. You will meet amazing individuals, both within our organization and local communities and will be assigned a mentor who will provide guidance and insight to help you start and progress in your career.

Job Purpose

Gas Engineering Design is responsible for the design of standard and complex gas projects allowing for the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to customers. Distribution specifically supports the design of main and service
replacement, public works, reliability and growth. The assistant associate engineer position is an entry level position into a progression to develop into a technical subject matter expert for natural gas system design. Gas Engineering Design is responsible for the design of standard and complex gas projects allowing for the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to customers. The Assistant Associate Engineer position is an entry level position into a progression to develop into a technical subject matter expert for natural gas system design.

Key Accountabilities

* Provide gas engineering and design for distribution projects in accordance with National Grid work methods and NY regulations.
* Member of an engineering design project team responsible to develop and manage all engineering aspects of a project.
* Manage external engineering design firms to ensure all work is performed in accordance with company standards, within budget and on schedule.
* Prioritize work and manage multiple projects within budget and time constraints.
* Assess project scopes and identify required variances prior to design to ensure a complete, high quality and safe project outcome.
* Incorporate corporate process safety procedures into the project work flow as required.
* Identify/specify special order (non-stock) required materials.
* Identify the necessary permits associated with the project.
* Implement change control procedures as necessary to track design changes instituted by engineering or field operations and identify any associated risks that may result. Document any requests to deviate from approved/agreed to parameters and seek authorization where required.
* Utilize work management applications such as SAP, Maximo and Power Plant.
* Participate in Storm restoration activities or other system emergencies (gas and electric) as called upon.

Qualifications

Bachelor or Master's degree in an Engineering disapline from an accredited institiution, Civil Engineering strongly preferred

Graduated between May 2020 and June 2021

Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program June 1, 2021 or June 21, 2021

Valid driver's license

Proven leadership experience

Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
