Jewish Family Service Camp Counselor in Middletown, New York

Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Summer Camp Counselor Duration: TEMP/Seasonal/2-weeks in August

Responsible to: Program Coordinator

Role: To use the summer program as a vehicle for social skills development and social inclusion for children with special needs.

Job Description: Implements program goals and procedures developed by the Program Coordinator. Works with the Program Coordinator to develop and implement program content and activities that will: Encourage the development of social skills. Impart a sense of pride and identity. Address the varied learning styles of the participants. Ensure an enjoyable recreational experience. Works with the Program Coordinator to supervise and evaluate the Volunteers. Observe and report to the Program Coordinator the progress of each child in the program. Ensures that activities are conducted safely and that campers experiencing behavioral problems. are offered an opportunity to decompress (as needed) until they can participate safely. Reports allegations of Child Abuse to the NYS Child Abuse Hotline.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED. Two years experience with the target population desirable.

Skills: Able to work with children with disabilities, creativity a PLUS, able to assist with ADLs, and Taking Initiative.

Hours are Monday - Friday 8:30am - 3:30pm.
