The Norwich Campus of SUNY Morrisville has been serving the Norwich community and the surrounding areas for more than 46 years, offering students associate degree options such as Criminal Justice, Computer Information Technology, and Nursing. Brief Description of Duties:

SUNY Morrisville's Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Summer Academy is seeking a dynamic and dedicated adjunct instructor to teach a one-credit course focused on community engagement within the human services field. The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the intervention process within neighborhoods and communities, emphasizing the vital role of formal helping services in these settings.

The course is designed to explore current issues in the human services field, with each semester focusing on a new topic. For this semester, the emphasis will be on community engagement, wherein students will delve into the intervention process within their local neighborhoods and communities. Through interactive discussions, case studies, and practical exercises, students will develop essential skills and knowledge to navigate and contribute effectively to community-based initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Deliver engaging lectures, facilitate discussions, and conduct activities to teach community engagement concepts.

  • Create course materials aligned with learning outcomes and current human services trends.

  • Foster inclusive learning environments and offer personalized support to students.

  • Connect course content with real-world community issues and resources.

  • Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback.

  • Assist students with academic and personal challenges, referring to resources when needed.

  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel empowered to express their opinions and perspectives.

  • Collaborate with other instructors and program staff to integrate current events content into the broader curriculum of the EOP Summer Academy.

  • Provide feedback and support to students to help them strengthen their understanding of current events and enhance their academic performance.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • A master's degree or higher in a related field such as social work, counseling, community development, or human services.

  • Previous teaching experience at the collegiate level, preferably with diverse student populations.
