Professional Rank and Salary Range: SL-1; $43,500 - $45,000

Duration: Calendar Year (this position works 12-months of the year)

Brief Description of Duties:

SUNY Morrisville is seeking an Instructional Support Assistant. This is a full-time position in the Equine Rehabilitation portion of the Equine Science Department assisting with the day-to-day management of the horses at the Equine Rehabilitation Center and the Equine Rehabilitation Center facilities, the instruction of Equine Rehabilitation program laboratories, and the supervision of the summer internship program and student employees.

This position is responsible for assisting with the daily operation of the college equine rehabilitation program to accomplish the educational objectives of the equine rehabilitation program established by the college. This position works as a team member with other faculty and staff members that work in the equine rehabilitation program.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist and supervise barn duty, include scheduling and weekend supervision

  • Assist with or lead equine rehabilitation program labs

  • Assist with patient care working with clients and appropriate professionals, including but not limited to, veterinarians, farriers, trainers, and adjunct therapists

  • Assist with organizing and scheduling the care of in-house horses and client horses in coordination with management

  • Ensure that medical and rehabilitation records are complete and accurate

  • Ensure that medical and rehabilitation equipment is properly maintained and in working order

  • Assist with handling of horses

  • Assist with maintaining an inventory of medical and rehabilitation supplies

  • Provide daily building opening and closing procedures, ensuring that all areas of the building are properly cleaned, resupplied and secured

  • Schedule delivery and/ or pickup of miscellaneous supplies

  • Assist professors with classes or laboratories at the facility as needed

  • Assist with oversight of student assigned barn chores. In the absence of students, ensure that barn chores are completed

  • May be required to assist with setups for special functions

  • Support management as directed

  • Available to work weekends and holidays as scheduled

  • Performs other duties as assigned

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in a related discipline

  • Strong horse handling skills

  • Experience in daily care and healthcare of horses

  • Moves equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. and perform daily horse care chores, including stall cleaning

Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor's degree with LVT

  • Strong, reliable work ethic

  • Effective communication skills

  • Experience operating machinery (skid steer, tractor, etc.)

  • Veterinary or rehabilitation experience

  • Experience working with students or in a teaching setting

Working Conditions

  • To support daily horse care, including stall cleaning, the Instructional Support Assistant will often work outside in ranging seasons and move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
