Professional Rank and Salary Range: SG-9, $41,399

Duration: Calendar Year (this position follows a 12-month schedule)

Brief Description of Duties:

SUNY Morrisville is seeking a Farmer. Farmers perform general farm work including such activities as care of a dairy herd and may be in charge of a specific farm operation. They typically perform a variety of general or specific farm work tasks in caring for and managing dairy cattle, which may vary according to season and weather conditions. This position will focus primarily on milking cows, animal care, cleaning barns, feeding calves, and general farm work.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of farm experience

  • Ability to operate farm equipment (primarily skid loader, tractor, etc.)

  • Willing and able to work with computerized equipment

  • Ability to keep written records of farm activities

  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and established protocols

  • Ability to work with students and assisting them in meeting their educational requirements

  • Working knowledge of modern dairy herd procedures, methods and techniques

  • Physically able to perform duties, including occasional heavy lifting, standing, walking and climbing

Preferred Skills:

  • Working knowledge of the care of dairy animals

  • Working knowledge of the methods and equipment of milking parlor

  • Working knowledge of the procedures for handling dairy cattle
