Duration:Full-time, Calendar year (12-month schedule)

Brief Description of Duties:

SUNY Morrisville is seeking an Instructional Support Assistant to join our School of Agriculture, Business and Technology. This person will support our Animal & Plant Sciences & Agricultural Business/Horticulture division.

The Instructional Support Assistant will aide our team in achieving our departmental vision, mission, and goals by providing various forms of support for our Faculty, Staff, and Students. Our operations include an organic farm, a specialty crops research and demonstration plot, spring bedding plant and flower crop and sales, hydroponics, greenhouses, landscape nursery, and the 4 Seasons Farm facilities: CEA grow pod, food storage, and kitchen. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Assisting with Greenhouse, Nursery, Farm, and CEA Facilities Management:

  • Specialty crop and cannabis production including, but not limited to: CEA, hydroponics, organic field production, marketing and sales, training and supervision of students and employees, food safety, irrigation, production schedules, harvesting and processing, post-harvest storage, transplant and liner production, research, IPM, organic regulations.

  • Greenhouse irrigation systems maintenance

  • Pest control

  • Plant watering

  • Nursery stock development & maintenance

  • Nursery irrigation system development & maintenance

Assisting with Landscape Installation and Management:

  • Landscape design, installation, and maintenance

  • Annual and perennial campus plantings

  • Container-nursery production

  • Pruning practices

  • Hardscape construction

  • Equipment operations & maintenance

  • Safety procedures

Assisting with Lab Instruction:

  • Assist and support the faculty with the planning and implementation of lab sections.

  • Supervise and direct students in lab activities and projects.

  • Provide students with hands-on experience.

  • Connect students to the horticulture, specialty crops, and landscape industries.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Horticulture, or closely related field.

  • Demonstrated competencies developed from industry experience in areas such as greenhouse, nursery, landscape, and/or specialty crop production.

  • Candidates must possess NYSDEC Pesticide Applicator Certification or be willing to become certified within a year.

  • Valid NYS Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Horticulture or closely related area.

  • Supervisory landscape / horticultural industry experience.

  • Relevant industry experience and contacts
