Genesee Country Village & Museum (GCV&M), a 19th-century living history museum in Mumford, NY (20 miles outside of Rochester), is seeking applicants to join our historical interpretation staff for the 2021 season. Our interpreters are costumed and public-facing employees who bring history to life for the visiting public by sharing stories, demonstrating historical activities, and contributing to the overall experience of our Historic Village.

Applicants should be able to positively engage visitors of all ages while providing information about a particular historical building, occupation, or activity being demonstrated. GCV&M is seeking applicants who can demonstrate a variety of skills, either as a period crafts or tradesperson or as an interpreter in a non-craft building. While we welcome all interested applicants, we are looking in particular for those who can train to become broom makers, historical cooks, farm interpreters, quilters, weavers, tinsmiths, blacksmiths, historical gardeners, and historical house interpreters for the 2021 season. Training, costuming, and tools to perform daily duties with or without reasonable accommodations will be provided.

Position Details:* Part-time positions will run from May 8 through October 11 from roughly 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. Shifts are available from Wednesday through Sunday but staff will not be required to work all of those days.* All of our historical interpreters are required to dress in Museum-approved and issued historical clothing appropriate for the Historic Village.* Some interpreters will be working near open fires, with sharp period tools, around farm animals, and/or conducting some strenuous work activities (with or without reasonable accommodations). Outdoor work occurs in a variety of weather conditions.* A willingness to learn new skills is essential. Candidates must be able to maintain a high degree of customer service during high or low visitor traffic and when dealing with a variety of mixed age groups, especially youth.* The established hourly wage for part-time, seasonal interpreters in 2021 is $12.50/hour.

In addition, we are seeking applicants to work as non-public-facing, non-costumed bakers 19th-century recipes in our modern Whistle Stop kitchen. We currently have part-time, primarily weekend positions available in the Whistle Stop for the season.

GCV&M is the largest living history museum in New York State and one of the largest in the country. We look forward to hearing from applicants who can help us bring history to life for our guests.
