SCO Family of Services Summer 2022 Law Intern in Nassau, New York

SCO Family of Services (SCO)seeks a Law Intern for a6-week positionto work closely with its Chief Legal Counsel and staff in the Legal & Compliance Department in the summer of 2022. We offer a$5,000stipend for this internship.

SCO is one of the largest non-profit social and human service organizations in the New York Metropolitan area, with an operating budget of approximately $260 million, a staff of 3,000, 111 locations and 82 programs. For more than 125 years, SCO has given individuals and families in New York City and Long Island the support and tools needed for a healthy, stable, and successful future, building stronger communities throughout the area. Effective, vital services include family support, early childhood programs, education, behavioral health, juvenile justice, special needs, foster care, and shelter programs.

TheSummer 2022 Law Internwill work closely with in-house counsel and members of the executive team and staff to gain an understanding of the inner workings of the Legal & Compliance Department of a large not-for-profit that delivers innovative and diverse services to New York’s most vulnerable children and families. You will learn what it is like to be an in-house attorney for a not-for-profit. In this role, your duties will include supporting the tightly knit Legal & Compliance Department team in matters such as: Legal Research & Writing; Litigation & Risk Management; Board Governance; Contract Review; Compliance; Work with Outside Counsel.

SCO seeks a law student who is completing his/her first or second year of law school by the Summer of 2022. The selected candidate will be someone who is interested in public service, a career in public interest, with excellent research and writing skills, and strong intellectual curiosity. The candidate should also have an interest in not-for-profit law, family law, health law, or an area of the law that overlaps with SCO’s mission to serve New York’s most vulnerable children and families.

This position will be based in SCO’s Long Island headquarters, but some or all aspects of the internship may be remote. We are willing to be flexible regarding location if it is more convenient for theSummer 2022 Law Internto work out of one of SCO’s offices in Brooklyn or Queens.
