Duties: The Department of Theatre Arts at the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Theatre Arts (Performance) beginning in the Fall Semester of 2025. The position is a ten-month contract which carries a 3/3 load.

Duties of the role include but are not limited to:• Teaching courses in beginning, intermediate, and advanced Levels of acting. A diversity of approaches is encouraged; awareness of leading 20th and 21st Century performance teachers and their pedagogy is important.• Opportunities to teach courses in affiliated performance areas exist. Certification or extensive experience with multiple approaches in teaching vocal production (Rodenburg, Linklater, Fitzmaurice, Lessac, Luckett etc.) would be especially valued as the ability to teach vocal production would be an asset.• Other areas of teaching assignment could include movement/choreography, yoga, stage combat, intimacy direction, directing, playwriting and improvisation, depending on the successful candidate's interest and experience.• Contribute artistically to a vigorous production season through actor coaching and work in other areas of expertise.• The candidate is expected to maintain a creative research agenda in professional theatre.• Demonstrated ability to direct student productions at a high caliber.

The Theatre Arts Department has roughly 190 theatre majors and minors. The students in the Performance Concentration make up roughly 70 % of the theatre student population. The department has a deep history of placing students in graduate programs as well as in the industry in theatre, film and television. There is the expectation that the successful candidate will continue to build on the strong reputation of the Performance Concentration at New Paltz. We especially encourage applications from individuals who bring diverse cultural and ethnic perspectives and who can effectively mentor and support our diverse student body.

Qualifications: Required:• MFA/terminal degree in Performance or Directing• College teaching experience• Demonstrated record of professional and scholarly achievement• Enthusiasm for mentoring students• Demonstrated record of collaboration and dedication to academic theatre and program building• The ability to contribute to the department and university's academic goals through innovative, collegial, and professional work in teaching, creative research, and service• Professional experience beyond academia ls desirable
