Duties: SUNY New Paltz invites applications for the position of Coordinator, Student and Family Programs. This position serves students as part of the Center for Student Engagement in the division of Student Affairs. The Center for Student Engagement provides services including orientation and transition programs, leadership development and student activities, fraternity and sorority support, student union building operations, and community and civic engagement. The Coordinator of Student and Family Programs is a critical member of the Student Engagement team, supporting new first-year, transfer, and commuter students and their families. This position offers the opportunity to create and manage programs, and work collaboratively with dynamic colleagues within and beyond this team who are committed to a vibrant student life program that seeks to create a positive connection with students as they start their connection to SUNY New Paltz.In partnership with the Assistant Director of Orientation and Transition Programs, this position coordinates orientation programs including First-Year Orientation, Transfer Orientation, and Parent & Family Orientation and explore additional opportunities to support parent and family engagement including:Prepare all check-in locations for Orientation sessionsMaintain a list of no-show pre-enrollment deposit (PED) participantsOversee meal tickets and catering orders for Orientation programsPlan and coordinate Parent & Family events and activities in collaboration with the AssistantDirector of Orientation and Transition Programs which include Summer Parent & Family Program, Parent and Family Farewell, Parent and Family Virtual Check-In, Parent and Family engagementThe successful candidate is expected to work nights and weekends in the form of rotational office coverage and assigned programming as well as to support general operational and departmental program needs.Duties also include:• Facilitate programs to support new first-year, transfer, and commuter students• Select, train, and supervise the Welcome/Engagement Ambassadors and Transfer Liaisons. Advising these student leaders with the planning and execution of programs and activities that would occur the first 6 weeks of each semester• Maintain and manage Argos reports of each Orientation session, run lists for CSE staff and other campus partners• Assist the Assistant Director of Orientation and Transition Programs with the coordination and execution of Orientation banquets/celebrations• Assist in the consultation, review, and approval of student club events• Assist in the management of the student engagement/student organizations and clubs platform (Anthology Engage)• Serve on the Student Affairs committees and working groups as well as other committees as part of service to the university.

Qualifications: Required

Bachelor’s degree in related field1-2 years experience working in a university settingStudent and/or professional experience with knowledge in student activities, event planning, orientation, facilities operations, hospitality management, or college student personnelExcellent administrative, communication, and interpersonal skillsAble to work well in a diverse setting that includes students, parents/families, faculty, and staffAbility to conceptualize, organize, and coordinate programs

Preferred

Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, or other related fieldsExperience with Anthology Engage software platformAbility to work within a dynamic environment and a proven competence in managing multiple tasks and competing prioritiesProven commitment to and appreciation for issues of diversity and community. Ability to articulate issues and trends in higher education.Experience designing and conducting assessment activities. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
