Duties Description The Region 3 Bureau of Wildlife is seeking a Fish and Wildlife Technician 1 for a 6-month position to assist with a camera survey for monitoring wildlife populations in Southeastern New York. Sites for this project will be on both public lands and private properties and the Technician will be expected to communicate with landowners to coordinate all field activities. Field work involves site setup (baiting and camera deployment), routine site visits to replace SD cards and replenish lure, and removal of all project materials at the end of the survey period. There will also be an office component to the position that includes daily route planning, mapping points, and data entry. The field season for this project is expected to be approximately 3 months, roughly June 1 to September 1. Hiking with equipment, sometimes in difficult terrain, is anticipated. The Technician should be able to navigate to sites using maps and GPS. In addition to these principal duties, the Technician may assist in other aspects of the Regional Wildlife Program including, but not limited to, dissemination of Program information to the public, Canada goose banding, and pheasant stocking.
Minimum Qualifications .Thirty (30) semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.Preferred: Good organization and communication skills, willing to work as part of a team to coordinate efforts with others working on the same project, experience with ArcMap and Microsoft Excel.
Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 11/1/2025. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview. Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.Must be able to work in remote areas.Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
