The City University of New York’s Career Development and Internships (CDI) unit is seeking a highly skilled trainer with demonstrated experience and ability to engage students utilizing a variety of distance learning strategies, both in synchronous and asynchronous formats, for the Summer Intensive for Public Policy (SIPP). The Lead Trainer will design and oversee operations for a series of three (3) weeklong online training sessions serving up to 100 student participants per cycle during summer 2020 (June-August). The Lead Trainer will report to the CDI Senior University Director and will supervise a small team of instructors/facilitators in order to implement the program design and deliver the summer curriculum to participating students. In collaboration with CDI, the Lead Facilitator will also coordinate and manage participant rosters, participant evaluations, and other necessary administrative matters. This is a remote position; interested candidates will need to have access to an internet service.
The SIPP will provide students with the opportunity to explore the process of policy development, explore the skills necessary for creating and implementing policies as well as increase personal and workplace readiness skills associated with careers in policy decision-making. The program’s goals are:
Train CUNY students on the steps of the policy making process with a focus on developing public policy for social justice and inclusion and/or advocacy thereof
Coordinate training CUNY students in fundamental (NACE) competencies in career readiness including but not limited to critical thinking/problem solving, teamwork/collaboration, professionalism/work ethic and oral/written communications
Design curriculum for a series of week-long intensive seminars, to be delivered utilizing a variety of distance learning strategies
Establish and measure learning outcomes and program performance benchmarks
Oversee Blackboard and virtual classroom platforms, online assignments, virtual small group work, invited content experts, social media, etc.
Implement and serve as the lead faculty member, who maintains daily logs with session notes
Develop strategies for ensuring maximum engagement by student participants
Assist the Career Development and Internships unit leaders in coordinating roster of invited guests and presenters from the NYC, NYS and national policy- and decision-making communities
Maintain attendance records
Oversee and coordinate the direct contact of project instructors with students
Conduct evaluations of students and instructors
Minimum of an advanced educational degree in a related field; doctorate or ABD preferred
At least 4 years’ experience in facilitating workshops or teaching;
Experience in delivering course work remotely utilizing a variety of distance learning techniques
Knowledge of policy and decision-making processes—public, nonprofit, and/or private organizations
Demonstrated commitment to student-centered learning and practice
Outstanding communication skills (oral, writing, and inter-personal);
Ability to work collaboratively with CDI staff;
Familiarity with issues faced by college students in urban settings.
