Atlas Obscura Online Event Producer [Freelance] in New York City, New York

Atlas Obscura is seeking a freelance Online Event Producer to manage and execute a series of 3–12 virtual book tour events taking place this fall. The online events are centered on the release of our third book, Gastro Obscura: A Food Adventurer’s Guide, and will be put on in partnership with our publisher and select independent booksellers. Creative concepts, featured talent, and programming formats will be provided by Atlas Obscura and our publisher. The person in this role is responsible for all pre-event coordination with all stakeholders and the successful production of the events.

Note, Atlas Obscura is a remote-first company, so you can work from anywhere within the continental United States.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with talent and stakeholders to prepare for online events

  • Secure contracts and pay featured talent and event staff

  • Create a run-of-show for each event based on AO templates

  • Organize and execute any necessary rehearsals or tech runs

  • Produce event descriptions/listings for the AO website and the ticketing platform Eventbrite

  • Liaise with the publisher and booksellers on participant book order fulfillment

  • Manage inventory and delivery of “tickets” (confirmation emails with instructions, via Eventbrite) to participants

  • Manage pre- and post-event communications to participants based on AO templates

  • Successfully execute Gastro Obscura book tour events

Desired Qualifications

  • At least five years of relevant professional experience, including some experience successfully producing online events or programming

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Comfort and experience with Zoom or other online meeting/event platforms

  • A creative and collaborative approach to experience design and development

  • A thoughtful and attentive approach to partner management

  • Clear and consistent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to meet established deadlines

Preference Given to Candidates With:

  • Experience with online book readings, author tours, or literary events

  • Experience managing events in Eventbrite

  • Experience hosting or working in the performance field with an innate understanding of what makes an experience successful and engaging from beginning to end
