General Description

The Liberty Partnerships Program is a New York State Grant Funded initiative and is comprised of approximately 47 programs across the State that link colleges/universities with middle/high schools in order to provide comprehensive stay in school programming to at-risk youth. The Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College seeks MSW-level summer graduate interns to join the program to provide comprehensive programming to high school students. This is a paid internship.

COVID Considerations:

HCLPP is currently operating remotely though there is a possibility for the resumption of select in-person activities for the summer program.

Other Duties

Summer graduate interns will assist Program Coordinators at both partner high schools to successfully coordinate and implement drop-out prevention services for high school students in collaboration with the DOE staff and other CBOs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to individual and group counseling, recruitment of students, participation in programming including workshops, college exploration, college advising, workforce development, academic and cultural enrichment. Responsibilities may change according to programmatic needs. Reports to the Program Coordinator and Field Instructor.

Summer MSW graduate interns will assist with the following tasks—

  • Facilitate in recruitment of students for summer programming by obtaining contact forms, personalized learning plans (PLP), and other associated paperwork to ensure proper follow-up to all students

  • Outreach to all absent and long-term absent (LTA) students on caseload

  • Outreach to parents of students on caseload

  • Outreach to students on caseload at-risk of dropping out or transferring to another school and provide appropiate referrals and follow-up

  • Maintain current and accurate student files

  • Provide referrals and linkages to students in need of additional support

  • Participate in summer programming such as workshops, educational activities, and other designated activities. In-person activities may include visits to outdoor recreational spaces

  • Work with CBOs and school-based staff to obtain necessary data related to graduation and retention rates, demographic information, test scores for State reports

  • Provide necessary referrals and ongoing socio-emotional support to an assigned caseload of students

  • Coordinate and support HCLPP tutors/mentors

  • Participation in meetings, which include:

  • Weekly HCLPP individual supervision, staff meetings and monthly group supervision

  • Collaborate with all school staff and partners, including:

  • Guidance counselor to assist with college and financial aid applications as well as SAT preparation

  • Foster partnership and collaboration with new CBO’s and current HCLPP partnerships


  • Enrolled in a MSW program or has obtained LMSW licensure

  • Culturally competent, demonstrate maturity, able to show initiative

  • Able to maintain a caseload, coordinate tutoring, work with school-based staff and faculty

  • Participate in some hybrid and in-person activities TBD
