NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing Part-Time Research Assistant in New York City, New York
The Strengthening the Architecture for High Quality Universal Pre-K (https://steinhardt.nyu.edu/ihdsc/projects/nyupk) research study at New York University is seeking individuals to support recruitment efforts and data collection efforts in the fall of 2021. The project is being led by Dr. Pamela Morris and Dr. Elise Cappella, and it aims to evaluate how professional supports given to preschool teachers are: 1) improving teachers’ classroom practices and 2) fostering children’s academic and social-emotional development. Notably, the project is being conducted in the context of New York City’s Pre-K for All (http://teachnyc.net/pathways-to-teaching/early-childhood-education/all-about) initiative, a nationally-recognized effort to provide high-quality preschool opportunities to every child in the city. The research project ultimately aims to contribute to education scholarship and to provide New York City’s policy leaders with valuable data that will help them strengthen preschool programming across the city.
By working as a research assistant (RA), you will have the opportunity to engage directly in the recruitment and data collection efforts for this project. Here is what the fall position will entail:
Late Summer: RAs will build relationships and share research information with pre-K program leaders with the goal of recruiting pre-K sites for research.
Early Fall: RAs will provide partnered pre-K sites with electronic and paper parent consent forms, present to parents about research participation (virtually and in-person) and obtain informed parent consent by walking parents through our form.
Late Fall: RAs will conduct tablet-based assessments with pre-K children in classrooms across New York City, contributing directly to valid and reliable data collection efforts.
RAs will record all correspondence and meetings with pre-K staff and families using Google Drive applications and REDCap. RAs will and meet regularly with NYU project staff and will be given regular feedback on their performance. At the end of the fall, project management will provide a comprehensive performance review. This position is a short-term, part-time opportunity (between 12-20 hours per week), though the exact hours can be discussed on an individual basis. RAs must be available at least three mornings during the business week. This position will span mid-August through early December. There may also be an opportunity to extend employment into the spring semester to support spring data collection. Please note that all employees are subject to NYU's school-wide vaccination policy.
