General Description
The Baruch STEP Academy is an academic enrichment program focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and providing college preparation. Managed through the CUNY Research Foundation, we serve over 150 middle and high school students throughout the city. The Summer 2023 Program will operate over 16 sessions, July 10th through August 3rd (Monday through Thursday only).

High School Instructor (In-Person)
Course: Physiology
Description: Physiology is the study of physical and chemical processes within the human body. Students will explore how the body works in health and with disease. This course will cover the functions of various organ systems, such as digestion, respiration, and reproduction.
Additional Information: This course is designed for students interested in health careers.

Summary of Responsibilities:
The STEP Academy at Baruch College is seeking to fill a summer instructor position for the high school program. The course will introduce high school students to an intensive science subject for a month. The goal of the course is to engage students in an exploratory science experience, not provided in a standard classroom. Instructors will prepare students to participate in the annual showcase displaying research posters, projects, or visual presentations.
Schedule Start Time: 9amInstruction Hours: 9:30am-2pm
Other Duties
Prepare and teach curriculum for about 20-25 students
Evaluate student and group performance often
Provide staff with measurable results in student learning through assessments
Monitor and maintain student attendance records
Reassess curriculum to account for students' needs, interests, and understanding of materials
Plan for end of semester project
Qualifications
Required
Availability for each program day from 9 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Degree in computer science, engineering or related STEM
Experience in a teaching capacity in subject area
Experience with designing/implementing a course curriculum
Have a strong classroom management style
Preferred
Strong background in the subject area
Prior teaching experience with middle or high school students
Ability to engage students with creative lessons and innovative teaching style
Possess good interpersonal skills with adolescents and a strong understanding of their maturity levels
Enthusiasm for the subject with flexibility in adjusting curriculum to reflect students' abilities
Salary $4,500 | $45 x 100 hours | This includes 72 hours of instruction time + 28 hours of orientations, meetings and prep work.
