OTC Markets Group Inc Python Developer Intern in New York City, New York

OTC Markets Group, operator of premier US financial marketplaces, is accepting applications for a Python Developer Intern to work with our Trading Platform QA Team over the summer. This is a great opportunity for a technologically inclined person learn about the fintech industry and ins and outs of delivering a software product.

The internship will span 8 weeks, beginning on June 5th and ending on August 4th. You will be exposed to several business lines, will have a chance to attend company presentations and learn about the nature of our business. 

Your task:

We have a unique QA team where we are not just responsible for authoring, running, and automating our test cases but we are also responsible for designing, coding, and extending our custom automation testing platform .   As a member of the QA team, you will be helping us to port our testing platform subsystems from Perl to Python.  To perform this task, you will first learn how our existing automation testing platform works. After this learning process, you will be working with our team to take each targeted subsystem and work with us to come up with a respective new Python design that will seamlessly integrate with our existing platform. Over the years, our QA team has come to know the limitations and wanted enhancements to our existing automation testing platform. We will ensure that these inputs find their way into the new design and implementation.   After we collectively complete each design cycle, you will execute the respective coding and testing to finalize the subsystem port. This same pattern will be followed by each subsequently selected subsystem.  You and the QA team will have constant checkpoints and communications to share feedback and discoveries to ensure transparency and a successful and smooth path throughout the project.

What you will do :

  • Get a clear understanding and get hands-on experience using our existing test automation platform and how we use it for our automation needs.

  • Work on designing, prototyping and developing our new Python-based automation testing platform.

  • Learn to work using agile development methodologies in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.

  • Practice continuous collaboration with team members during the prototyping and development. Participate in code reviews and design discussions.

    Required Qualifications :

  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.

  • Excellent skills in programming object-oriented Python.

  • Knowledge of data structures and algorithms.

  • Hands-on knowledge of relational databases and SQL.

  • Experience using an IDE for coding Python (examples are Eclipse, Pycharm, etc.)

  • Understanding of GIT version control.

  • A fast learner who picks up new concepts quickly. Ability to deliver on well-defined tasks with little or no assistance.

  • Ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment. Excellent work ethic. Ability to work and independently.

  • Comfortable working within a fast-paced environment.

  • Openness to new technologies and creative solutions.

  • Great communication and interpersonal skills.

    Nice To Haves :

  • Experience and/or knowledge of Perl scripting language.

  • Understanding or experience with FIX protocol.

  • Understanding the concepts of trading systems.

  • Prior intern or work experience in a technology company.

     

OTC Markets is currently operating in a hybrid work environment (three days in office, two days remotely).

This is a paid opportunity: $25/hour.
