New York University Research Project Manager in New York City, New York

Overview:

Dr. Pamela Morris-Perez (previously Morris) is seeking a full-time Research Project Manager to join her team to begin Summer 2022 to support two projects as part of her newly-launched center, ARCADIA (A Research Center for Adolescent Interconnected Approaches) for Suicide Prevention (https://steinhardt.nyu.edu/ihdsc/projects/arcadia) : 1) a cluster randomized mixed-methods study of a school-based mental health/suicide prevention program in California called “Directing Change;” in Directing Change, students make short films as part of a statewide film contest, with potential impacts on suicide risk particularly for Latinx and LGBTQ+ youth; and 2) a randomized study of a system-level strategy “WeCARE,” in two hospital emergency departments in New York City, to screen Black youth for suicide risk and connect those at risk for suicide to mental health services.

Dr. Morris-Perez also conducts two projects in early childhood: 1) partnership work with NYC’s Department of Education to study and support the city’s universal pre-K program (https://steinhardt.nyu.edu/ihdsc/projects/nyupk) ; and 2) the study of a parenting intervention within pediatric care called Smart Beginnings (https://steinhardt.nyu.edu/ihdsc/projects/smart) . Dr. Morris-Perez’ team is currently hybrid remote/in person and candidates should be able to come to come to the office on Washington Square Campus on a weekly basis.

Specific responsibilities for the Research Project Manager position include:

  • Work closely with Principal Investigators to define project goals, develop timeline for achieving project milestones, monitor progress toward milestones, and adapt as needed to achieve project goals;

  • Train and oversee junior full-time (i.e., Research Coordinator) and part-time staff (i.e., interns, research assistants, data collectors);

  • Lead the planning and implementation of project activities, including large-scale recruitment and data collection across multiple sites and states (NY and CA), data documentation, data cleaning and analysis;

  • Build systems (e.g., in Google Sheets and REDCap) to collect and track data collection and sample flow, design tablet-based screening and survey assessments, and develop systems for monitoring recruitment and data collection status;

  • Oversee all aspects of grants and research project management, including hiring, budgeting, purchasing, and annual reporting to funding agencies.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, or related social science field plus 4 years of experience working on research teams (in a full-time or similar capacity), preferably in suicide prevention and/or schools OR a Master’s degree in psychology, education, or related social science field with part-time/internship research experience plus 2-3 years of experience working on research teams (in a full-time or similar capacity), preferably in suicide prevention and/or schools; PhD-level applicants whose training includes substantial research project management experience will also be considered.

  • Excellent leadership skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills;

  • Experience developing and administering surveys and/or conducting large-scale field-based recruitment and data collection;

  • Excellent Excel and data collection/management software (e.g., Qualtrics, REDCap) skills for entering, tracking, manipulating, and analyzing data;

  • Prior experience supervising junior staff, interns, or undergraduate researchers;

  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively on complex tasks and to lead junior staff in the conduct of research;

  • Commitment to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion;

  • Preferred qualifications include:

  • Prior experience in suicide prevention work (direct service, crisis text lines, advocacy);

  • Demonstrated experience leading and conducting complex quantitative analysis (e.g., using SAS, STATA, R);

  • Relevant work and/or lived experience in the marginalized communities that are the focus of our projects.

Salary: $65,000-$75,000; specific salary for the selected candidate will depend on the level of education/experience.
