TED Conferences LLC Web Player Engineer in New York City, New York

Position overview

TED’s mission is to spread ideas through live events and recorded media. As a Web Player Engineer, you will be responsible for TED’s streaming video players on ted.com and elsewhere, delivering live & on-demand media to millions of people around the world.

Requirements

  • Highly fluent in JavaScript, especially with web video and audio APIs

  • Strong understanding of streaming media technologies such as HLS

  • Experience designing libraries and APIs for other developers

  • Experience with video metrics and with data-based decision making

  • Familiarity with video advertising protocols like VAST and VPAID

  • Experience with hls.js or other MSE-based libraries is a plus

  • Experience with react is a plus

    Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain libraries that front-end developers can use to build unique and compelling video experiences for TED’s digital products

  • Monitor video quality and improve performance wherever possible

  • Maintain and support advertising integrations

  • Influence and guide the direction of our video products and technology

  • Experiment with new technologies and share discoveries with the team

  • Clearly communicate technical constraints and opportunities with stakeholders

  • Travel: upon request / as needed
