Job Description

AKF Group LLC is an award-winning professional services firm providing engineering, commissioning, testing, technology, sustainability, and lightning design services. We weave together our core MEP / FP engineering as well as thirteen additional Integrated Services under a single point of contact. AKF’s experienced engineers focus on new ways to design for the built environment amidst the evolving trends of the AEC industry. We build flexible spaces with sustainability in mind to achieve the highest quality of convenience and comfort.

We are looking for Electrical Engineering students to join us for AKF's Summer Academy in May of 2023.The AKF Summer Academy provides learning and software training to current students and covers a wide variety of topics aimed to help participants better understand the construction industry, AKF’s role in that industry, the flow of work at AKF, and each of the services offered by AKF. This grants those in school an opportunity to learn about a potential career in the construction industry and gives those joining AKF full-time a firm grasp on the various types of engineering services that AKF offers. The goal is to help everyone start their career with knowledge of not just their own specialty but how to collaborate with other specialties. The training also helps new members better understand the lifecycle of project work at AKF and of all construction projects.

General:

Assist in the planning of work requiring judgment regarding the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Works closely with Project Managers (PM) or Senior Engineers for technical review and guidance.

What You Will Do:

You will work closely with AKF's senior engineers for technical guidance and mentoring and perform the following:

  • Perform basic calculations

  • Assist in the evaluation of fundamental engineering guidelines, code compliance requirements and industry standards

  • Participate in the examination of field conditions as required to support development and completion of projects

  • Assist in documentation processes

  • Prepare materials for presentations or client meetings

  • Assist in the requests for information and drafting correspondence

  • Represent the company in a professional manner in all dealings with owners, architects, vendors, other design professionals and contractors

  • Update job knowledge and technical expertise by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, participating in technical organizations

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

What You Will Need:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited mechanical or architectural engineering program

  • Possess strong verbal, written, analytical, persuasive and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and work effectively as part of a project team

  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

  • Introductory working knowledge of BIM/Revit and AutoCAD

    Job Classification and Scheduled work hours:

  • Full Time Temporary Hourly Non-Exempt Employee. Non-Exempt employees are eligible for Overtime Pay.

  • Standard workweek is Monday-Friday

  • You may be required to work extra hours in order to meet client’s demands and project delivery target dates.

  • Travel to client meetings and worksites is required.

The standard base hourly rate is between $20-$24/hour. The actual starting rate is determined on prior internship or co-op experience.
