Police Athletic League Accountant in New York, New York
The Police Athletic League (PAL) is the largest independent youth organization in New York City that provides educational and recreational activities for children and young adults. PAL Inc. and The New York City Police Department work in partnership to provide communities with summer and after-school recreational and educational activities.
We are looking for an Accountant who will be responsible for reporting on and monitoring assigned government contracts along with standard accounting functions for the agency. The Accountant reports to the Senior Accounting Managers for all work performed. To succeed in this role, the Accountant should have technical accounting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and be a team player with both the administrative and program staff.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Assists and prepares monthly financial reports and various related statements that reflect the agency’s financial condition.
Prepares monthly government reports and reconciles related activity to the general ledger.
Monitors expenditures to assure that the government programs remain within the budget.
Advises department head and managers on the use and source of funds.
Generate monthly closing and adjusting journal entries.
Ensures records for external audits are prepared.
Performs balance sheet analysis and other duties as assigned or requested.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Associate’s degree in Accounting.
Minimum two years’ work experience.
Experience with Government reporting including but not limited to DYCD, ACS, and NYS.
Skills & Knowledge/General Comments
Strong computer skills including proficiency with accounting software and excel.
Knowledge of Financial Edge, Financial Edge NXT and HHS accelerator is a plus.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
