New York Genome Center Accounting Intern in New York, New York

NYGC’s Summer Internship Program is designed to provide students hands-on mentorship from an assigned mentor in one of our research labs, support groups or administrative departments. You will gain exposure to Genomics and the research that we do, as well as have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with top genomic researchers. In addition, NYGC interns will be able to attend and participate in a wide variety of other events scheduled specially for our Summer Intern group, including weekly workshops, presentations, career panels, social events and much more. The expected duration of the internship is June 5, 2023 - July 28, 2023.

As an intern on our Accounting team, you will have the opportunity to learn about the field of genomics and work directly with our team of finance and accounting professionals. The Accounting team is responsible for the operations of the organization, including the processing of vendor invoices and billings. We are also responsible for the monthly financial reporting of the organization, which includes account reconciliations and analyses.

As an intern, you will assist with processing invoices and reconciling accounts, including bank accounts. Depending on the time of the year, an intern will also be expected to assist with our annual financial statement and A-133 audit, which would include preparation of schedule and/or pulling supporting documentation for sample tests.

Eligibility requirements

  • Undergraduate student in a related course of study

  • Familiarity with excel or SAP, preferred;

  • Available to work full-time on their project for the duration of the internship

Interns will earn an $8,000 stipend for their participation in the program.

Flexible Work

NYGC has established a flexible work policy to give employees and other staff more ability to balance their work, personal commitments, and commuting challenges. The incumbent in this position is eligible for a flexible work schedule or hybrid remote work arrangement with supervisory approval. At minimum, interns will be required to be onsite at the New York Genome Center for all weekly intern events (e.g. scientific and social events), which will occur once or twice per week.

About the New York Genome Center

The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, nonprofit, academic research organization dedicated to advancing genomic research. NYGC scientists and staff are furthering new approaches to diagnosing and treating neurological diseases and cancer through their unique capabilities in whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing, state-of-the art analytics, and the development of genomic tools. NYGC concentrates specifically on disease-based research in the following areas: neuropsychiatric disease (autism, schizophrenia, bipolar); neurodegenerative disease (ALS, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s), and cancer.

Located in Lower Manhattan, the New York Genome Center was founded by and remains closely affiliated with the leading academic medical centers and research universities in the New York region, engaging in research projects with and for these institutions. Essential to our collaborative work is an outstanding faculty, whose members typically hold a joint appointment at NYGC and a partner university.
