Macmillan Amazon Sales Assistant in New York, New York

Description

Macmillan is looking for a highly organized individual with an affinity for books to learn the nuances and complexities of one of the most dynamic and innovative retail accounts. The Amazon Sales Assistant provides support for the six-person team servicing Amazon and Amazon Canada, both print and digital. This position offers an excellent introduction to publishing from the vantage of high-volume online retail demand, and includes learning about new and forthcoming books across multiple adult imprints; assisting with book pitches and presentations; tracking orders and sales performance; and facilitating merchandising opportunities at Amazon. Reporting directly to the Director of Amazon Sales and working closely with four national account managers and a product manager, the sales assistant will interact with several departments within Macmillan, from supply chain, sales operations, and fulfillment to publisher-level marketing, and publicity. Candidates must be willing to enter, collect, analyze, and disseminate book and sales-related data on a regular basis.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Attending select launch, marketing, and key title sales meetings to learn about books published across Macmillan’s imprints.

  • Generating and circulating weekly Amazon preorder and sales reports.

  • Working in conjunction with the Amazon National Account Managers to track consumerdemand, stock status, and Amazon backorders of published and not-yet-published books on a weekly basis.

  • Nominating Amazon merchandising on a monthly and seasonal cadence.

  • Tracking approved merchandizing along with results of discounting promotions.

  • Assisting with seasonal merchandising and stock-up recommendations at Amazon Canada.

  • Reviewing onsite listings and metadata of key forthcoming and backlist titles to ensureoptimized customer experience.

  • Creating and circulating to Amazon a monthly newsletter of significant publicity events.

  • Developing copy and presentation materials to promote Macmillan books to primary contacts at Amazon on a seasonal and monthly cadence.

Required Skills / Knowledge:

  • A good working knowledge of computers and business software including Excel (GoogleSuite a plus).

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • The ability to write engaging descriptive and marketing copy.

  • The ability focus on multiple titles, tasks and goals at the same time.

  • A broad and diverse interest in books.

Experience Needed:

  • No prior publishing experience required, though book-specific retail experience or coursework is considered valuable.

Educational Background Required:

  • College Bachelor’s degree
