ARISE! is seeking two (2) work study students to assist with a hybrid summer enrichment program which will take place Virtually Mon-Thurs (10:30 AM - 12 PM) & Friday (in-person) 10:30 AM - 1:30PM). This position is available from July 12th - August 20th, and must attend a mandatory onboarding day which will be offered in June. There is the potential for this role to assist in a Zoom speakers series which would happen M-Th afternoons as well.
The ARISE! core academic components (NYMACS & Local Civics) will be virtual Monday-Thursday, and so this role is specifically designed for students with experience in supervisory capacities for virtual online learning environments. Fridays are in person (outside) days, requiring chaperones and attendees. This means eligible candidates should ideally be locally based. Due to the nature of the demographics of the population we serve, the preference is for all engaged professionals to be culturally responsive and sensitive to some of the circumstances our young people may be facing at home.
Lead and help monitor students throughout their virtual classroom time
Assisting with attendance (verifying absences)
Ensure that students adhere to program expectations and note any particular students who may require supplemental resources/assistance.
Help ensure safe access into and leaving program site partner locations
Assisting with program interaction as an extension of WHDC and consideration for proper ARISE! protocols/ expectations
Function as a point of contact for the outdoors program partners who will lead the activities and who may require supplemental resources/ assistance
Identify any situations and circumstances which require on site escalation measures
Must have experience in an instructional setting with students in K-12
Must exhibit a strong work ethic, punctuality, and grit and composure when faced with challenges
Strong emphasis on culturally responsive learning approaches
Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to lead young people, and be responsive to the needs of instructors.
Demonstrated skills and abilities to exercise professional judgment, work independently and show initiative
Must have been awarded federal work-study for the term in which a work-study position is being sought
Must be a student matriculated in a TC degree program
Must be taking at least 6 credits (or equivalent, which includes full-time equivalent offerings - HBSK 6480, CCPJ 6480, CCPX 6480, or any 8900 course)
Full-time TC employees are not eligible for this position
Must be able to abide by the Student Confidentiality Agreement
Must be able to abide by the Student Privacy Requirements
Experience working with after-school programs.
Experience working with Black & Latinx youth.
