Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, Employer Relations, the Assistant Director serves as the relationship manager for employers in the following industries interested in recruiting Columbia Business School talent: Consumer Packaged Goods, Healthcare, Manufacturing, and Nonprofit/Social Enterprise. In addition to providing daily customer service to meet the needs of existing recruiters who utilize on-campus recruiting, the Assistant Director is responsible for proactive outreach and cultivation of new relationships, based on student interest and market insights. The Assistant Director also maintains primary responsibility for the office’s Employment Reporting process. As an integral member of the Career Management Center, the Assistant Director will also participate in additional projects as necessary to help the office execute its mission.

Responsibilities

  1. Manage relationships with assigned on-campus employers, and assist with individual company interview needs, including the processing of candidate schedules and the facilitation of event requests.

  2. Liaise with students about the recruiting process and specific interview schedules, accommodate special needs, and help to negotiate conflicts arising among students or between students and companies.

  3. Schedule post-season employer meetings with local on-campus recruiting partners to review strategy, identify best practices, share student feedback, and gather employer perspective for input on structuring future recruiting activities.

  4. Manage the collection and maintenance of student employment data, with assistance of the Manger, Recruiting Operations & Services. Analyze and disseminate the data as guided by the Director, Employer Relations, for both the School’s annual Employment Report and use in surveys by organizations that rank the School, including Bloomberg Business Week and U.S. News & World Report. Determine strategy for data reporting, execute collection processes, and ensure accuracy while maintaining confidentiality.

  5. Under the direction of the Senior Associate Director, conduct outreach to targeted firms that do not typically maintain a regular on-campus recruiting relationship with CBS. Utilize consultative approach to help employers achieve success. Customize support to best match employer needs and resources, when possible, while working within established School policies.

  6. Travel occasionally to conduct business development meetings, attend conferences, and support student-led treks.

  7. Maintain knowledge of current industry trends, job profiles and recruiting channels to better educate student clubs and fellow CMC staff through presentations and development of written material. Partner with CMC Advisors, Coaches and Fellows as part of industry teams.

  8. Assist with office-wide events such as Recruiters’ Day and career fairs, as needed.

  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and/or its equivalent required. Minimum of 2-4 years of relevant experience.

Prior experience with recruiting on either the university or company side. Strong organization and interpersonal skills. Strong facility with Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook. Ability to manage relationships and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders at various levels. Strong customer service and trouble-shooting orientation. Proven ability to excel in a high-volume environment. Ability to balance independent delivery of work with strong team work/collaborative orientation. Ability to work flexible, long hours, early mornings/late evenings on a seasonal basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior data management experienced preferred. Extensive knowledge of recruiting processes. Understanding of the business environment and its various interrelationships. Understanding of MBA rankings.
