Position Summary

The Center for Publishing in the School of Professional Studies is seeking an Assistant Director to assist with administration of its three division: the Master of Science in Publishing: Digital and Print Media program; the Summer Publishing Institute, and external events including global student trips and Executive Education Programs. The Center for Publishing trains industry professionals for positions in book publishing and digital/magazine media companies. The Assistant Director will have primary responsibility for the graduate program but assist with the administration of all programs. In collaboration with the director, the individual will participate in strategic academic planning and policy development for the program, serve as primary student liaison and advisor and provide onsite administrative oversight of all program functions. Responsibilities include: participate in course planning and develop course schedules. Manage course syllabus and submission processes. Oversee course cancellation and faculty and student notification. Oversee preparation of course-related forms in academic and operational platforms. Ensure courses are scheduled and academic and payroll deadlines met. Develop positive relationships with faculty and serve as a resource to direct problems to appropriate parties or to address and resolve problems. Manage communication to faculty. Ensure facilities and technology issues in the classroom or laboratories are resolved. Assist with the onboarding of new faculty. Provide support and contribute to the successful execution of the department’s strategic agenda. Serve as administrative liaison to student clubs. Support the planning of special student programs and manage the implementation of these programs. Present at recruitment events and/or identify guest speakers. Supervise staff. Manage adjunct faculty budget to ensure fund availability. Must be willing to travel and chaperone students on trips if needed.

Qualifications

Required Education:Bachelor's Degree in a relevant fieldPreferred Education:Master's Degree in Publishing or Higher Education preferredRequired Experience:5+ years or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must include experience planning and implementing administrative activities.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute tactically. Must be able to work well in a changing environment and practice creative problem solving. Ability to market programs, solve problems and interact with individuals at all levels. Willingness and availability to travel to recruiting events and both domestic and international programs.
