Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP Assistant General Counsel in New York, New York

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading global law firms with more than 4,000 lawyers and staff in 31 offices is seeking an Assistant General Counsel, reporting to the General Counsel of Morgan Lewis. This position can be resident in any east coast Morgan Lewis office.

Responsibilities:

Analyze coverage needs and manage applications and renewals of professional, management and employment practices liability insurance.

Advise on global regulation of practice of law requirements - entity licensing, registration, and regulation; corporate operation (i.e., China); file maintenance; record retention.

Oversee internal compliance with external requirements and internal policies and procedures; advise on and manage required certifications.

Consult with new business intake process on conflict of interest and business acceptance issues, including engagement letters; joint representation analysis and documentation; suitability; information management; regulatory).

Review of global vendor agreements; due diligence and assessments re same; review agreements for the retention of third-party service providers directly or indirectly for the benefit of clients.

Liaise with marketing and other internal departments with respect to completion of RFPs; client requests for information regarding firm's practices/compliance with rules, laws, regulations and client requirements.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, and JD and bar membership required.

At least eight years of legal experience as a transactional lawyer.

Experience in a law firm general counsel office, preferably in an international law firm.

Experience working in a pro bono capacity at a law firm or legal service provider preferred.

Excellent oral and written communication skills as well client service and interpersonal skills.

Excellent working knowledge of legal ethics, risk management, and loss prevention concepts.

Demonstrated leadership skills.

Strong managerial skills.

Detail oriented.

Ability to manage large projects or programs across offices.

Strong analytical ability and problem solving skills.

Ability to be a critical team player.

Ability to adapt to change and balance competing demands.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business and professional publications, prepare business correspondence, proposals and reports, effectively present information to groups of employees, and respond to questions from employees, managers, and clients.
