THE ROLE
Reporting to the Director of Planning, the Assistant Planner drives the sales plan through a consistent focus on studying the business, monitoring inventory and sales performance, and providing analysis necessary to bring in new products to fit the needs of the customer. They will track sales performance of existing products and assist in the determination of next steps; this includes developing in-season forecasts and future merchandise plans for a given gender / class. The Assistant Planner will work closely with the merchant team to optimize store assortments and ensure that the merchandise financial targets are met including tracking and managing the open-to-buy sales and inventory. The role requires strong analytical skills, financial acumen, and knowledge of the Retail market to inform the retail buy plans and set financial goals for the company. The Retail Planner is responsible for reviewing stock to sales ratios, responding to changing sales trends, and ensuring plan sales, plan markups, and plan markdowns are achieved by departments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Create seasonal/monthly plans and forecasts for sales, inventory and gross margin
Produce weekly reports recapping sales, inventory, gross margin versus plan by class
Provide daily and weekly updates on business as it relates to the forecast, identifying trends and highlighting selling that exceeds or falls short of expectations
Manage and update monthly Open to Buy
Initiate and develop actionable analysis to recap business by class/vendor at a top line to create strategies to drive sales and profit
Recommend buys based on analysis of the business prior to market-based on sales, profitability and sell through’s
Monitor flow of initial assortments as well as re-orders.
Validate stock to sales relationships, maximize receipts flow to improve turnover
Recap business by class/style/team and size. Create best seller/worst seller reports on weekly/monthly basis
Maintain Vendor and Class Plans
Review sales floor productivity by area of business and flex floor seasonally to capitalize on sales
Monitor inbound and outbound receipts to ensure planned stock levels
Manage, recommend and execute monthly and seasonal markdowns
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform each essential duty above at the highest levels. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
3-5 years’ experience of full life-cycle merchandise analysis (forecast and in-season, through allocations) for a retail business
Experience in financial analysis and complex data analysis
Demonstrated interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Strong presentation skills and ability to speak effectively in front of a large group
Strong computer skills in Excel (macros, v-lookups, pivot tables, complex formulas, etc.)
COMPENSATION
Competitive salary, $52,400 - $62,400, commensurate with experience, and a generous benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid vacation, and 401k plan.
