The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology (Physics) at CUIMC in New York, New York
The Department of Radiation Oncology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) is seeking an Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at CUIMC with the opportunity to affiliate clinical medical physics practice within the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center (HICCC). HICCC, is one of 71 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers that provides cancer care services within New York City, Lawrence, and the Hudson Valley and is dedicated to an integrated, patient-focused approach to cancer research, treatment, support, prevention, education, and outreach. Qualified candidates may be appointed within the CUIMC of Columbia University at the Assistant Professor level, commensurate with their degree, clinical, and academic standing.
Department Description
Technical clinical operations of the ACR-accredited Department of Radiation Oncology are currently supported by nine (9) board-certified Medical Physicists (6 Ph.D., 3 M.S.) and 4.5 board-certified Dosimetrists. Additional personnel is expected to be recruited to the group in the upcoming months. The New York City location has four (4) conventional linear accelerators: a Varian Trilogy, Varian TrueBeams (2), and Siemens Artiste with CT on rails. In addition, a Varian Ethos adaptive radiotherapy system was released for clinical use late last year for both adaptive and conventional IGRT. All platforms support IGRT via CBCT / kV or MV onboard imaging. Varian Identify systems will be installed this summer for DIBH and respiratory-gated treatments. A wide variety of technology facilitating special procedures are housed in the Department: Elekta Icon GammaKnife for intracranial radiosurgery, Zeiss IntraBeam for intraoperative radiotherapy, and Best Novoste for vascular brachytherapy. Varian solutions are used to provide routine high dose-rate (gynecological, intracavitary, and interstitial) and low dose-rate (prostate) brachytherapy treatments. The Department utilizes a GE LightSpeed and a Siemens Somatom dual-energy CT for patient simulation, the latter slated for replacement in 2023. The Department's two (2) satellite facilities house an Accuray TomoTherapy system, an additional Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator, and on-site CT or PET/CT simulation capabilities. Treatment planning systems include Varian Eclipse, BrachyVision, EthosTPS, and VariSeed. Varian Velocity is used for deformable image registrations and RadCalc / ClearCalc for secondary dose calculations. Varian's ARIA suite serves as the Department's record and verification system.
