Kohl's Associate Materials Manager - R&D Denim in New York, New York

Executes fabric and wash research & development in denim and recommendation of trends, newness with technical proficiency in collaboration with Global Materials Sourcing (Mill Matrix, COP), Apparel Sourcing (Vendor, COP), Product Development (Fabric cost guidance, Wash Development) and Supply Chain Stakeholders.

EXECUTES RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT OF TREND AND NEWNESS

  • Utilizes trade shows, trend services, engages in market research of aspirational brands, and competitor market intelligence as needed to identify seasonal materials newness, trend and innovation

  • Collaborates with the brand design teams to execute R&D with strategic mills and vendors seasonally

  • Seeks newness and market intelligence from key mills and vendors

  • Works to align with seasonal calendar and milestone meetings

  • Develops sustainable alternatives seasonally

  • Works closely with design to deliver newness and trend as appropriate by age and gender

    DENIM DEVELOPMENT ENGAGEMENT WITH INTERNAL & EXTERNAL TEAMS

  • Partners closely with the Materials Sourcing team to align on early development requests, as appropriate, within strategic mill matrix, vendor base and seasonal sourcing strategy

  • Shares information from cutting edge fabric suppliers to deliver sustainably sourced materials to design's intent and aesthetic at target price points

  • Executes PLM functions related to new development and commercialization of seasonal materials including fabric and wash palettes by brand

  • Works directly with mills for developing materials within cost range for required IMU while maintaining aesthetic, quality and performance features

  • Understands materials testing standards and test methods

  • Tracks and updates status of development and production samples

  • Manages physical library of materials and samples for all denim

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED

  • 4+ years of experience in denim

  • Established research and development experience

  • Technically proficient in textile construction with a global perspective

  • Strong organizational and change management skills

  • Strong presenting and influencing skill set

    PREFERRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree ideally in Design or Textiles, Business or closely related fields will be considered

  • Experience traveling and working directly with the Apparel & Textile Global Supply Chain

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
