Established in 2019, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Public Humanities Initiative (SNFPHI) at Columbia University supports projects that bring the ideas and insights of the humanities to life for the Greek public. The Initiative recognizes the creativity, innovation, and potential for broad impact of public-facing humanities projects in Greece. It promotes projects through funding, resources, training, and collaboration with the Columbia University community. The Initiative supports endeavors in the fields of history, creative arts, and education that have the potential to maximize the long-term impact of public humanities, are in a position to benefit significantly from SNFPHI and Columbia support, and are undertaken by or for younger generations

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Public Humanities Initiative invites applications for an Associate Director at the rank of Associate Research Scholar in the Department of Classics. Reporting to the Director of the SNFPHI, the Associate Director will collaborate closely with the Initiative's faculty and Steering Committee to develop and execute the Initiative's research agenda in support of public events, workshops, exhibitions, and student fellowships that connect the field of Hellenic Studies with a broad public audience.

In addition to primary and collaborative research projects, the position involves administrative responsibilities with respect to the organization, planning and management of the Center. The Associate Director is expected to oversee the Summer Grants in Public Humanities & Hellenic Studies and the Greek Public Humanities Projects, manage the SNFPHI website and contribute to grant proposals for future initiatives.

Candidates are expected to have the PhD at the time of appointment, and to have a record of original research, experience in public humanities, and advanced computer skills.

This is a professional Officer of Research position. The initial appointment is for one year with the expectation of annual renewal, subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
