The Research Analyst is a seasoned professional role. Applies in-depth disciplinary knowledge, contributing to the development of new techniques and the improvement of processes and work-flow for the area or function. Integrates subject matter and industry expertise within a defined area. Requires in-depth understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the sub-function as well as coordinate and contribute to the objectives of the function and overall business. Evaluates moderately complex and variable issues with substantial potential impact, where development of an approach/taking of an action involves weighing various alternatives and balancing potentially conflicting situations using multiple sources of information. Requires good analytical skills in order to filter, prioritize and validate potentially complex and dynamic material from multiple sources. Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required. Regularly assumes informal/formal leadership role within teams. Involved in coaching and training of new recruits. Significant impact in terms of project size, geography, etc. by influencing decisions through advice, counsel and/or facilitating services to others in area of specialization. Work and performance of all teams in the area are directly affected by the performance of the individual.
A leading global commodities strategy team, regularly ranked at the top of annual investor survey lists, is seeking an entry-level candidate to join a dynamic research franchise at Citi. Strong written and presentation skills and a passion for commodities as an asset class are a must. Candidates that show strong interest in at least two commodity sectors, if not all commodities markets, are preferred: agriculture, metals (industrial and precious), energy (hydrocarbons and renewables).
The role will be based in New York and requires the ability to multi-task, function professionally across various teams in research, sales, and trading, and econometric modeling. As a leading sell-side research team, candidates should show interest in client-facing activity and developing these skills over time.
Analysis of commodity supply/demand fundamentals and micro and market trends impacting specific commodity markets or sectors.
Development of econometric models and statistical frameworks for commodity analysis and pricing both on a short-term basis and a medium-term/thematic horizon.
Responding to client requests as directed by senior members of the team.
Participation in internal and external market calls and discussions, including with clients.
Following and reacting to policy developments, geopolitics, and idiosyncratic newsflow/events (e.g. weather, trade) that impact commodities fundamentals on an ad-hoc and long-term basis.
Writing contributions for research notes and creating visuals, chartpacks, and presentations for senior team members.
Updating models and collecting, sorting, analyzing datasets.
Helping with team operations including organization of group projects.
Education requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in statistics, math, finance/financial engineering, macroeconomics, or other quantitative disciplines. Master’s Degree optional.
Up to 2-3 years of professional work experience in equity or fixed income research, investment banking, or management consulting is highly preferred. Must show interest in client-facing activity.
This role will require the completion of several NASD securities license exams including 7, 63, and 3.
