Nature America, Inc Business Development Manager - Open Access in New York, New York

The Business Development Manager - Open Access will be responsible for creating and developing open access partnerships with institutions and consortia, with the end goal of driving revenue growth in the fully open access portfolios. The successful candidate will proactively manage their territory, understanding and responding to the open access needs of external partners in the region. This role is based in our New York office.

Main responsibilities:

  • Build strategic open access partnerships with key open access stakeholders at institution, funder, consortia, other related orgs in North America
  • Engage on all aspects open access- understand stakeholder/organizations position, and ensure positive communication of Springer Natureposition
  • Provide thought leadership externally and use to influence new commercial opportunities
  • Identify open access business development (revenue related) and other collaboration opportunities
  • Work openly and in conjunction with internal stakeholders to identify and grow leads
  • Participate through speaking engagements at conferences, summits, workshops and other key industry events
  • Understand and keep up-to-date with current open accessand scholarly communications market
  • Engage with internal stakeholders, to support with industry / open access expertise
  • Work closely with institutional sales teams to provide support on the open accessdynamic
  • Partner with marketing, sales, communications, product management, operations to highlight commercial needs and opportunities, provide ongoing feedback and refine positioning in the market place
  • Ensure revenue targets are met
  • Maintain accurate reporting processes, procedures and partner database
  • Provide management with routine commercial updates and pipelines
  • Gather and share market intelligence and expertise within the business, to develop strategy and products
  • Meet specific KPIs set by Management

Required skills and experience:

  • Must have 5 years experience with an STM or academic publisher
  • Existing knowledge of the open access market
  • Proven consultative sales / business development / account management experience managing customer relationships, negotiations and pipelines
  • Able to gather, understand and respond to customer and market needs
  • Confident communicator with the ability to interact with external and internal contacts at all levels
  • Assured and confident when public speaking at external events (customer and general market)
  • Demonstrates a high level of initiative and self-motivation
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Highly computer literate
