Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading law firms with more than 4,000 lawyers and staff in 31 offices globally, is seeking a Manager of Business Development. Reporting to the Director of Business Development. The Manager of Business Development is responsible for assisting in the design, execution, and advancement of our most critical client-centric business development.
Working collaboratively with all levels of staff and lawyers firmwide across practices and departments, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for supporting several dedicated industry teams, which will include understanding the respective industries and clients within those industries in depth, developing customized business development plans for the industry team, identifying client targets, developing client-specific business development plans, and assisting with the implementation of the business and client development plans ensuring completion on time and on target, and tracking project progress. The Business Development Manager will also be responsible for supporting some of the firm's Client Alliance Program (CAP) client teams, which will require in-depth knowledge of those clients, developing and driving strategic business development plans around them, and supporting CAP team partners, driving team goals forward, and tracking progress.
The Business Development Manager will be charged with interpreting financial analysis and competitive intelligence to identify client development opportunities, in addition to supporting various cross-practice and client initiatives. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, energetic, collaborative and have a "can-do" attitude. The candidate should also possess exceptional organizational and leadership skills, industry knowledge, and a blend of business analysis and executive communication, to this role.
Although currently remote, upon reopening of the office, this position can be resident in any of our US locations with a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule.
Key responsibilities include:
Supports business development planning and execution for industry teams.
Works with partners to support business development planning and execution for CAP and other priority clients.
Drives the identification, prioritization, development and implementation of client development targets and related business development plans.
Leads business development engagement in award nominations, other external submissions and public relations activity.
Effectively organizes information, gathers resources, and manages multiple projects.
Generates high quality work products in multiple formats (e.g., presentation slides, Excel project plans, Word documents).
Collaborates with cross-functional teams to accomplish multiple assignments and deliverables on an ongoing basis under very tight deadlines.
Supports the full lifecycle of projects from inception to completion.
Creates and maintains tracking and reporting tools as necessary (e.g., spreadsheets, databases, and reports).
Communicates effectively with all levels of partners, staff and firm management.
Experience and qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, and seven (7) years of progressively responsible related experience with at least five (5) years of experience managing mid to large-scale projects; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Law firm or other professional services experience is preferred.
Experience excelling in a highly matrixed work environment with ability to work across multiple business units and functional teams.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with a wide range of individuals with differing opinions and diverse personalities.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and effective presentation skills.
Results oriented with time management and organizational skills to prioritize work and handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment.
Ability to take initiative, anticipate needs, and exercise independent, sound judgment to influence decision-making and effectively interface with executive management.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; proactive self-starter; strategic thinker.
Discretion in dealing with confidential information.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, familiarity using a CRM system, and ability to adapt to new software programs.
Flexibility with working hours and business travel.
