CAMBA Career Readiness Instructor, Career Ready; Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) in New York, New York

Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP): Through this New York City Department of Youth and Community Development sponsored program, CAMBA places youth ages 14 to 24 in minimum wage work experiences, and oversees their employment. Youth work for six weeks during July and August, and placements are made in both public agencies and private non-profits. Types of work include clerical, custodial, teacher’s aides, library assistants, hospital and recreational aides. As a project sponsor since 1995, CAMBA distributes applications, conducts intake, develops jobs, and monitors employment.

Position: Career Readiness Instructor

Reports To: Career Ready SYEP Director

Location: 145 Stanton St. New York, NY 10002

What The Career Readiness Instructor (13-15 year olds) Does:

  • Provide daily classroom (and occasional remote) instruction; manage classroom effectively.

  • Design daily lesson plans (or modify extant ones) to meet core course objectives, ensure student engagement, and maximize course effectiveness.

  • Assign and review materials and provide constructive feedback.

  • Maintain meticulous daily attendance and progress records.

  • Invite interesting, relevant, and appropriate guest speakers and collaborators, and potentially organize and lead an occasional field trip.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A., B.S.W.) and two years of applicable experience and/or equivalent experience. 

Other Requirements:

  • Must obtain Dept. of Education fingerprint clearance.

  • Ability to maintain fingerprint clearance throughout the duration of employment.

  • Experience working with younger youth (13-15 years old), ideally in a classroom or education setting.

  • The ability to converse in Mandarin and/or Spanish. Preferred

Compensation: $20.00 hourly

When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
