The Riverside Church Carillonneur in New York, New York
JOB SUMMARY: The carillonneur provides suitable music related to the liturgical year during regular Sunday worship services, holiday services, and for select special performances throughout the year, as arranged by the music department.
TIME: Performs each Sunday before the morning worship service at 10:30 AM, again after the service for 15 minutes and again at 3 PM (sometimes 2:30) for a half hour concert. Provides prelude music before the following services and events: Candlelight Carol Festival, Christmas Eve, New Year?s Eve, Ash Wednesday, Easter Sunday, the Annual Handbell Festival, and for funerals and weddings as requested. The carillonneur will also perform at least one 30-minute concert during the summer carillon/organ recital series.
? Works with the Director of Music, Director of Operations, and Building Committee to oversee the maintenance and repair of the carillon and practice clavier.
? Arranges for guest performers for the 30-minute recitals preceding the summer organ concerts, and arranges for other guest performers as needed.
? Maintains and is responsible for the carillon library held in the carillonneur?s office.
? Replies to carillon-related inquiries via phone and email.
? Performs other related duties as requested by the Director of Music, including helping with promotion of the carillon, tours, publications, & music commissioning.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
? Carillon studies with a recognized teacher or at a recognized school providing carillon instruction.
? At least 5 years of experience as a carillon performer and significant familiarity with concert level instruments.
? A member of the Guild of Carillonneurs of North America.
? Ability to render proficiently, and with artistry, the standard carillon repertory (including Preludes of Matthias Van Der Gheyn and music of Ronald Barnes).
? Ability to arrange music for carillon.
