As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the responsibility of the Child Life/Independent Living Specialist is to provide a safe and secure environment and dynamic child and life skills programming for EGA residents and their children. EGA is an innovative 51-apartment residential and vocational program for young adults who are preparing to transition into independent living once gaining job training, employment, educational and life-skills competencies.

Hours: 40 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt
Major Duties:
Provide case management services, including individual and group counseling, to the children of residents at EGA and a caseload of approximately 7 residents as well as provide follow-up after-care services on an as needed basis.
Complete intake assessments for new residents to the program and discharge summaries for exiting residents.
Work with residents to develop and implement individualized service plans and goals based upon the specific service needs of the resident.
Assist residents in making referrals to appropriate providers for educational and vocational services.
Provide advocacy and referral to assist participant’s complex needs in securing entitlements, shelter, legal assistance, medical and other emergency needs, as well as referrals for on-going follow-up needs.
Responsible for keeping progress notes and writing letters as well as keeping appropriate case records and maintaining accountability to funding sources.
Responsible for collaborating with the Educational/Vocational program staff and staff from the various training programs in which the residents participate.
Responsible for assisting residents develop healthy and appropriate recreational and social skills, budget management, etc.
Engage in interdisciplinary visits with child development professionals, school personnel, and preventative workers.
Work closely with the Family Case Manager ensuring children’s needs are met within context of parent’s service plans.
Provide crisis intervention to children and parents, diffusing potential crisis situations and taking appropriate action in resolving conflict.
Develop child centered programming following trends in program and the community to include use of in house resources, community outreach, age appropriate workshops, and field trips.
Provide referrals to external resources including daycare, educational programs, summer camps and recreational activities.
Responsible for the ongoing development of the monthly programming/workshop calendar for residents based on their input and need.
Create, encourage, promote and lead and co-facilitate independent living workshops.
Develop and maintain a community resource manual to provide to youth transitioning out of the program and to alumni who have already left.
Regularly communicate with interdisciplinary team on matters concerning children’s development and independent living skills programming.
Participate in supervision, team meetings, case and service plan reviews, and suggested trainings.
Responsible for documenting all progress notes, treatment planning, assessments, alumni surveys, workshop attendance, and additional information as needed into the database, Efforts to Outcomes (ETO).
Effectively use and practice the Sanctuary Model tools: safety plans, community meetings, psycho-educational groups, team meetings, red flag reviews, treatment planning conferences (or similar), and self-care in the department/program to create a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.
Promote and model the seven Sanctuary Model commitments to create a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.
Integrate the Sanctuary Model SELF (Safety, Emotional Management, Loss and Future) framework into daily practice to ensure quality care and an effective work environment.
Qualifications:
BA degree in Child Development or Elementary Education preferred, plus one or more years experience working with children and families.
Must be able to provide first aid.
Flexible hours to insure access and availability. (Position is based onsite- Residential Program)
Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth development and trauma-informed perspective.
