Job Summary

Working as a Catering Director, you will effectively plan events & meetings for this higher educational location from start to finish while keeping the guests and operations in mind by maximizing space and generating monthly metrics. Confer with customers and team members in all phases of their meeting/conference to ensure complete customer satisfaction. Maintain excellent relationships with the client and their guests, as well as other departments within the operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with the Food Service Director or Executive Chef to ensure all catering menu proposals are presented to the client accurately & effectively

  • Be able to adjust schedule to meet business demands

  • Strong knowledge of how catering events operate, buffet service, high-end cocktail events and plated table service.

  • Manage "on-the-floor" activities, confers with customers, service staff both on-site union and agency wait staff teams

  • Hire, train and schedule catering associates and is actively involved in the development of existing associates in service techniques, menu presentation, policies, and procedures

  • Menu development and marketing functions as they relate to the catering department

  • Strive to make constant improvements in the event operation - research alternative products of either higher quality or lower cost review, propose new display wares, beverage recipes, menu items to chef / initiate seasonal offerings; improve standards of service and event operation design

  • Book, select and cost menu items, pricing contracts, and resourcing temporary help and equipment experience

  • Assist in cafe operations when needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • The individual will maintain the highest standards of food quality, presentation, sanitation and safety

  • 2 -4 years of experience in the hospitality industry including 1 year of supervisory experience - college/university preferred

  • The ability to plan, oversee and execute events with emphasis on detail

  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task

  • Possess knowledge of current food trends

  • Strong computer skills - MS Office

  • Must have strong customer relation skills and be team oriented

  • Must be able to write menu proposals in consultation with chefs

  • Prepare and monitor budgets; financial targets and forecasts

  • Maintain local clients database and build and maintain relationship with vendors

  • Must have a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends when needed
