Summary:

Lead Coach provides targeted, skills instruction, coaching youth and training staff in New York Edge after-school programs. They facilitate New York Edge Three-Season Sports/Physical Activity Model as specified by the Center for Sports Instruction. Lead Coaches organize and provide physical activity professional development to ensure the safe effective delivery of all program activities. Must provide instructional support at sport-specific professional development trainings and stress appropriate coaching techniques.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ensure projects are structured, age-appropriate, and have clear learning goals based on the provided sports curricula.

  • Deliver and assist with all clinic and organization wide sports programs.

  • Maintain communication with After-School Program Director and Center for Sports Instruction Program Managers regarding the centralized calendar of Center for Sports Instruction programs, leagues, tournaments and special events.

  • Motivate sports specialists and students to participate in organization-wide sports activities

  • Prepare coaches and students for participation in organization-wide sports activities

  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and during organizational sports events.

  • Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to sports specialists, and demonstrate proper use of materials and equipment.

  • Enforce safety rules and regulations governing sports, recreational activities, and the use of equipment.

  • Ascertain and interpret skills and adapt activities to meet student needs.

  • Prepare facilities for events, tournaments and leagues.

  • Evaluate sports specialists to determine if they are producing desired results.

  • Promotes positive character development in all sports programs.

Required skills:

  • Must be highly knowledgeable and skilled in cheer-leading and have prior experience successfully teaching youth and organizing events.

  • Must be able to train sports specialists on the curriculum as it applies to cheer-leading.

  • Must be responsible, reliable and punctual!

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of college with experience as a member of an intercollegiate team.

  • Minimum of two years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.

  • Minimum of two years of coaching experience is required.

  • Must have passion for New York Edge mission and demonstrated interest in the field of education and youth development.

  • Able to work late afternoons and/or evenings. After-School hours can span from 2:30pm-6:00pm, with most programs running from 3-6pm.

  • Able to work Saturdays. Most sports trainings, leagues, tournaments and special events take place on Saturdays between 8am and 4pm, spanning approximately 4 hours during that time frame.

  • Certifications and credentials in respective skill-based activities highly preferred.

  • Candidates who are qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity preferred as well.

Time: After School Hours, 2:30pm - 6pm

Location: Bronx, NY

At time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
