The mission of New York Edge is to help bridge the opportunity gap among underserved students by providing programs designed to improve academic performance, health and wellness, self-confidence, character and attitudes for success in life.
Lead Coach provides targeted, skills instruction, coaching youth and training staff in New York Edge after-school programs. They facilitate New York Edge Three-Season Sports/Physical Activity Model as specified by the Center for Sports Instruction. Lead Coaches organize and provide physical activity professional development to ensure the safe, effective delivery of all program activities. Must provide instructional support at sport-specific professional development trainings and stress appropriate coaching techniques.
Essential Job Functions:
Ensure projects are structured , age-appropriate, and have clear learning goals based on the provided sports curricula.
Deliver and assist with all clinic and organization wide sports programs.
Maintain communication with After-School Program Director and Center for Sports Instruction Program Managers regarding the centralized calendar of the Center for Sports Instruction programs, leagues, tournaments and special events.
Motivate sports specialists and students to participate in organization-wide sports activities
Prepare coaches and students for participation in organization-wide sports activities
Establish and enforce rules for behavior and during organizational sports events.
Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to sports specialists, and demonstrate proper use of materials and equipment.
Enforce safety rules and regulations governing sports, recreational activities, and the use of equipment.
Ascertain and interpret skills and adapt activities to meet student needs.
Prepare facilities for events, tournaments and leagues.
Evaluate sports specialists to determine if they are producing desired results.
Promotes positive character development in all sports programs.
Must be highly knowledgeable and skilled in cheerleading and have prior experience successfully teaching youth and organizing events.
Must be able to train sports specialists on the curriculum as it applies to cheerleading.
Must be responsible, reliable and punctual!
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
Must be remote access prepared which includes: i ncluding web/internet/broadband accessibility and reliable cell phone devices equipped for texting and talking.
Must possess and be able to maintain throughout the assignment; the technology (hardware, software, internet access and a working cell phone) required to perform the duties of the position including communications with supervisor and other staff members
Physical requirements, including ability to wear all PPE required, climb stairs, lift children, perform CPR, communicate by voice, monitor and evaluate events visually and aurally.
As an essential worker it is expected at this time, that you have schedule flexibility based on State, Local and Federal pandemic management conditions and requirements (e.g. school closures, training, emergency orders)
Certifications and credentials in respective skill-based activity highly preferred
Candidates who are qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity preferred as well
Must pass pre-employment background investigation including but not limited to fingerprinting, employment history, and criminal background check. Please notify New York Edge of any date restrictions you may have during the hiring process
Minimum of 2 years of college with experience as a member of an intercollegiate team.
Minimum of two years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.
Minimum of two years of coaching experience is required.
Must have passion for New York Edge mission and demonstrated interest in the field of education and youth development.
Able to work late afternoons and/or evenings. After-School hours can span from 2:30pm-6:00pm, with most programs running from 3-6pm.
Able to work Saturdays. Most sports trainings, leagues, tournaments and special events take place on Saturdays between 8am and 4pm, spanning approximately 4 hours during that time frame.
Certifications and credentials in respective skill-based activities highly preferred.
Candidates who are qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity preferred as well.
Time: After School Hours, 2:30pm - 6pm
Location: New York, NY
Cheerleading Specialists will be required to report to the school building and interact with staff, students, parents and school administration while following DOH Covid-19 guidelines such as wearing PPE and remaining socially distant.
At time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
